Marcia heard her niece saying excitedly from the side of the ice rink as she approached, shifting her shoulder bag a little higher up so that it wouldn't drop. She'd had a day off, for once, and as rare as that actually was, Marcia was glad of it: maybe that wouldn't seem out of the ordinary for most people to be happy about having a day off, but Marcia loved her job. Her job was her life, and she was one of those people that you would think wouldn't take the day off even if it had been offered to her. But no, when she did have a day off, she did take it. On her days off, she got to go visit her niece, and that was one of her favorite things to do. It wasn't something that most people would expect of Marcia Sydes, to be interested in the life of a five year old girl, but perhaps it was one of those things that took people by surprise in a better way. Rough and gruff, Marcia didn't do well with people most of the time. She was too blunt for the taste of most people, she'd never had any problem laying things straight, and she was just a little... different from most girls her age - that was obvious judging by her profession, a weapons specialist for Torchwood. But despite this, it was her niece that she got along with best of all: Maybe it was because she was reminded of herself when she saw Haylie, she didn't know. But regardless, she liked it when she could see her. Marcia grinned and knelt down onto one of her knees as her niece ran up to her, both of them parallel to the side of the ice rink. Marcia's eldest brother, Haylie's dad Marcus, approached from behind his daughter and grinned a little. "Thanks, Sia. Just make sure she doesn't hurt herself, alright? Rose'll kill me if she's got a scratch on her." Her brother said with a nod of his head. "Yeah, yeah, I know Marc. I've got her, you know I was excited to come see her." Marcia agreed, shrugging slightly as she picked Haylie up and held her lightly against her hip. "Auntie Sia, daddy got me a stuffed bear, and I named him Boris. He's a Russian Spy." Haylie chattered away excitedly, her dad walking away from them and raising a hand in farewell. Marcia laughed a little as she requested two pairs of skates at the counter and raised an eyebrow a little. "Oh, is that so? Very cool. Is he specially trained?" Marcia asked, sitting Haylie down on the side bench and then sitting down next to her, starting to help the little girl tie up her skates properly. "Oh yes, he is most definitely specially trained." the young girl continued to chatter away as Marcia continued to fix her skates.[/ul]

Stepping of the train Alistair looked around him. He was in London, England. It was his second time or third visit to the place as he has been before. He was neither English or Welsh. Alistair was Canadian and very far away from home. Both time wise and location wise as he was from the twenty-fifth century. In his arms he carried Ursa his plushy Polar Bear. Alistair had his scarf warped around his neck and he looked around the train station. Why does it have to be so big? I wish Jaxom or Ianto was here. I hate being alone even though Ursa is with me. he pushed his stay bangs from his face. A half an hour later Alistair found himself strolling around the streets and then stopping at an ice rink. Its been ages since he went staking and it was too tempting not to go. He loved the snow and ice. It felt homely to him-- not the bad sort of homely but the good sort. So he wandered over to the rental office and asked polity if he could rent a pair of skates as he did not have any with him-- nor did he own any. The woman at the counter helped him out and soon he held a pair of brown figure skates in his arms. Walking down he found a bench and sat down and began putting on his skates. Alistair couldn't help but to ease drop into the conversation between the children and their -- well the other woman who was talking to them as he didn't know whither she was their mother or not. He looked over to them lost within his thoughts and thought for a moment that he might know this woman. Maybe it was a file he read on his desk or something. He could not pin where but she looked familiar. He didn't have the guts to ask so he busied himself with lacing up his skates. Standing up he wobbled a bit before he caught his balance. "Right, allons-y Ursa." he whispered to his bear. "Its just a principle of basic physics." [/blockquote]

she asked as the little girl did her best to gain a little bit of her balance in the skates against the concrete, waiting for her aunt to finish. Haylie nodded. ”Yep yep.” she agreed with a nod of her head, though she wandered over a little to the side of the rink, where the curb of the concrete and the ice met each other, only to take hold of the handrail for a little more support. Marcia nodded a little before standing up herself, already used to the difference in weight and support that the skates gave her, and walked over to Haylie once more, picking her up and setting her down on the ice gently, allowing her to keep hold on the inner hand-rail as she did so. Haylie grinned a little, holding her bear by the paw with one hand, and the rail to the rink with the other hand. Marcia stepped down onto the ice herself and skated in slight circles next to Haylie, humming a little to herself as she did so. After a moment or so, Haylie spoke up. ”Hey, auntie Sia, look – he’s got a bear too.” Haylie said, nodding a little in the opposite direction that Marcia was facing. Looking over her shoulder, Marcia noticed another man who was skating, a scarf around his neck and a bear in his arms. Marcia raised her eyebrow a little: it wasn’t that odd, even she herself still had a stuffed bear, but she didn’t usually take hers out of her house, or even off of her bed for that matter. ”Well, imagine that. That’s pretty cool.” Marcia agreed with a slight nod of her head, smiling slightly down at her niece. Haylie grinned, skating a little away from the rail and over to Marcia’s other side, tripping up a little on the edge of her skates and dropped her bear. Marcia stopped almost immediately, looking away from the man and turning around to pick up the dropped bear for her niece. [/ul]

Placing one foot in front of the other Alistair moved his way about the rink and found himself musing over the fact that the rink did not have fiction. His stakes slid easily along the frozen ice. He smiled as he moved easily without applying much force. "Interesting....c'est très intéressant." he mused to Ursa who was still buried in his arms. He clang onto his bear and skated on. After getting used to the feeling he mused if he could pull of a spin and test free fall. Free fall was a physics principle when an object was constantly falling in a given space. For an example a satellite in orbit was constantly falling in space. On Earth however it didn't work like that due to gravity. An example on Earth would be a falling apple in a moving elevator. Alistair loved the principles of physics and testing them. Then again he was an astrophysicist. As an experiment he found himself pushing his foot and balancing on one foot for a while before he crashed into the wall and fell against the frozen ice. He caught himself for a moment crawling onto his knees slipping and sliding a bit before he fell back down feeling a bit dizzy. His head hurt and after another moment passed he found himself closing his eyes giving in to the darkness which over came him. Opening his eyes some time later he blinked confusedly. He couldn't remember his whereabouts or why he was even lying on his back on the ice. It was cold, and for another thing his head hurt. It throbbed and hurt like the Shakespeare. His hand clutched onto Ursa who was luckily next to him and he started blankly up for a moment trying to remember what happened. Nothing came to mind. Nothing at all. Alistair blinked again and tried to get up but his head hurt too much and he found his whole body collasping under him. [/blockquote]
