brief history: Ezzelin’s name was selected by his parents, who were intrigued by humans and their cultures. His first name, Ezzelin, is an Italian name meaning ‘little noble one’. His middle name comes from Babylonian myth, meaning ‘moon’.
Born into one of the six ruling families of Haeve, Ezzelin –in theory- should have been set for life. Although human lifestyles were found widespread throughout Haeve, Celestial tradition still remained strong in the hearts and minds of the species, especially within the ruling households. It was Celestialian myth that the tenth son born into a family was cursed, and brought terrible luck for the rest of the household. A tenth son was also seen an omen for terrible events yet to unfold. Because of this myth, many families would have their tenth son executed.
Ezzelin was saved. How? He may have been born into one of the most tradition-abiding families, but his parents were not murderers. They loved their son dearly, curse or no curse, and swore that no harm would befall him. To ensure this, Ezzelin was raised in secret, isolated and sheltered away from Celestial society. Because of this, Ezzelin never truly grew up. He knew how to behave like a normal child, innocent and playful, but didn’t quite understand how to act his age.
When Ezzelin was seventeen, the Frye family began feuding with another ruling household on Haeve. It wasn’t unusual for sparks to fly between the leading families, but it soon became clear that this feud was advancing into something much more sinister. The struggle became so intense that neither family could remember the reason for the fight. The Frye family began to point the finger of blame in Ezzelin’s direction, after all, by Celestial myth he was the cursed son who brought terrible luck on the family. In order to save their son from the plots his own family were making against him, Ezzelin’s parents used Celestial technology to send their son to Earth, the planet in which both his mother and father had fallen in love with.
Ezzelin was unprepared for this sudden change. After all, most children aren’t accustomed to change. However, he had no choice and on his nineteenth birthday, his parents transported their cherished son to Earth. Soon after his arrival on Earth, Ezzelin’s family was murdered by the rivaling family. Ezzelin, however, has no clue of this and lives on with the hope of seeing his family again.

secrets:
His mother kept a prize vase in one the hallways when Ezze was around five. During a particularly thrilling game of ‘in-door football’, Ezzelin scored a rather spectacular goal. It was a shame that the goal happened to be his mother’s vase. When asked who broke the vase, Ezzelin pinned the blame onto one of his older brothers, and managed to get off Scott-Free. When he went to Earth, he made a promise to himself when he saw his family again, he’d admit to it.
fears:
Ezzelin fears nothing more than being alone. Being brought up in a large family made Ezzelin accustomed to the belief that he’d always have someone around him. As well as other children, Ezzelin also fears what might be hiding in the darkness. He’s not a big fan of thunder storms either.
habits:
Playing tricks on other people, humming, biting his nails, fidgeting and creating nick-names for people, even if they don’t approve.
overall personality:
It’s plain to see that Ezzelin is child in an adult’s body. However, he’s more childlike than he is childish. He thinks, acts and even communicates like a child, thanks to his upbringing on his home planet and the fact his parents never told him to do otherwise. However, he may have the mental age of a child, but he’s not stupid. He can easily use his childlike innocence to his advantage and have others wrapped around his little finger in an instant. Not that he would use other people for selfish gain, of course, Ezzelin’s not like that.
Despite this, there has always been a very small part of Ezzelin which has managed to act his age. He is loyal, trustworthy, and also quite clever, even if he doesn’t show it. However his logic leans more towards philosophical wisdom than any other forms of intelligence. Yet like every child, he is still quite naive and innocent when it comes to ‘adult life’.
Generally, Ezzelin is bouncy, playful, hyper and usually cheeky, but never to strangers. He is quite subdued compared to his normal personality around new people, but once he feels he can trust them and has warmed to them, he starts acting a little more like himself; a child in an adult’s body.

“Look at me! Quick, quick!”
Ezzelin balances precariously on the edge of a brick wall in the Fyre gardens, arms outstretched like a tight-rope walker. His eldest brother is also there, but he’s writing something. And he most certainly isn’t looking.
“Tee-tee, look at me!” Ezzelin whines.
Teekan (nicknamed ‘Tee-tee’ by Ezzelin alone) give an exasperated sigh and looks up from his paper.
“Look, Etty,” Teekan begins, and from the sound of his voice Ezzelin knows he’s annoyed, “I really have to get this done. And for crying out loud, get down from there before you break something.”
But Ezzelin’s not listening.
“I’m gonna jump!” he proclaims.
“Don’t you dare.” Teekan warns, voice going slightly darker.
“I do dare, and I’m gonna!” comes the challenging, playful response.
Before Teekan has a chance to say otherwise, Ezzelin launches himself with full force. However, his foot slips. He feels himself rushing uncontrollably forward. Teekan shouts. The world spins. Then –
Ezzelin woke with a start. He sat bolt upright and glanced around. He blinked, rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands and gave a low whine. He had that stupid dream again. The one where he was playing in the gardens at home and he fell off the brick wall. He always had that dream, it always began in the same place and ended in the same place.
Stupid dream.
It was then he realised where he’d chosen to sleep wasn’t the best place. No wonder he didn’t have a nice snooze; park benches were so uncomfortable, and it smelt funny, like fast food and ash mixed into one. As the scent wafted into his nostrils, Ezzelin pulled a face which quickly changed as his mouthed stretched lazily to yawn.
The smell of fast food on the bench reminded his stomach that it’d been a while since he’d eaten. Quickly shaking off the groggy feeling, Ezze reached under the bench and pulled out his ‘bits and bobs’ rucksack. He rummaged through the messy contents, humming a made-up tune as he flicked used tissues and sweet wrappers out onto the path. His hand delved ever deeper through his collection of gathered possessions, from the skull of a small animal he’d found under a bush which intrigued him for hours on end, to the picture he’d drawn of his family when he was little.
He paused for a second, staring at a happy –if a little blotchy- faces of his painted family. He pulled it out slowly and looked carefully at each figure. There was dad, standing next to mum, their long spindly arms wrapped around each other. Then there were his brothers, all nine of them. However Ezzelin hadn’t quite realised that his brother took up quite a lot of room on the paper so he had to squish them down a bit. He knew which blotchy figure belonged to which brother. Especially Tee-Tee, sticking out at the back, towering over the rest of the brothers with his spindly figure. Last but not least there was him, Ezzelin, in the very middle. A little titch compared to his big brothers. He was waving up at the real Ezzelin, a big red smile on his face. Ezzelin felt jealous of his painted double and he stuck his tongue out rudely to show just how bitter he was. After all, the little boy in that painting still had his family.
A loud rumble in his stomach interrupted Ezzelin’s thoughts and he quickly crammed the picture back inside his rucksack, not caring if it got creased or ripped. “Smile at that.” he mumbled, punching the painting down into the dark depths.
