brief history: She was named Kealeason by her very large family. Her name, translated, means blessed. It was one of the few things she remembered from her life before…well, before things changed. Her mother was a healer and her fathers worked for the Conglomeration of Lortei.
Her mother taught her two very important things. First, how to heal herself and others. Her people were easy healers and rarely got ill but the Conglomeration of Lortei was a peaceful planet where other planets came to work out treaties and war-plans and their people were hurt and sick. The second important thing her mother taught her was that family meant everything. Your family was who you were, they are who you come from and who you go to in the end.
The people of Lortei live in triads because of their genetic needs and she was the youngest of five children. The only female born to her parents. She was spoiled by her fathers and adored by her brothers that were much older than she.
Luas, the youngest of her brothers, taught her all the names of the stars and all the different species of aliens that came to her planet. Her oldest brother, Shilpa, taught her how to fight and how to survive. He felt that any young woman worth her weight could hold her own in a fight. He said this to her on the last day she would ever see her family. All these gifts would help her survive the trouble that awaited her.
As she reached her 18th season, she was out collecting blooms for her mother when a colour appeared in the distance. Kealeason was a curious child and she couldn’t stop herself from exploring. The colours were so lovely and she just wanted to touch them.
The next thing she knew she was on her knees, cold and afraid and being drenched from the downpour that fell around her. She cowered by the wall, unsure of what had happened to her. The world seemed so devoid of any colour. The shimmering rainbow was gone, the blue grasses and pink skies of home were gone and all she could see was gray hard walls and dark black ground and charcoal skies.
Kealeason crawled over to the nearest place she could find to hide and waited for the rain to end. She fell asleep as she waited.
She was awoken by a couple of people. One of them was a woman who seemed shrewish and bossy. The other was a tall man with dark hair and blue eyes. He leaned over her and offered her a hand.
He introduced himself as Captain Jack Harkness. She couldn’t understand what he was saying. She tried to tell him her name in her native tongue and this man spoke back. He knew her words and he told the woman what Kealeason said. They took her to a large body of water and put her on a vessel that brought her to a terrible place.
Kealeason doesn’t talk of her time in Flat Holm. Partly because it was horrid and partly because she was no longer Kealeason, she was Leolina Jones. They chose that name because it was a favourite of the current head of Torchwood and Jones was such a common last name.
Captain Jack used to visit her all the time while she was there. It was the only bright light in all that darkness that she could find. He brought her sweets and blooms and books. The books were the best. Jack taught her to speak English. After spending two years in Flat Holm, Jack came to her and said he was taking her somewhere new.
He took her back to the mainland, Cardiff, Wales, Jack had said. He took her to a place he called the Hub. His boss met with Leo and offered her a job based on Jack’s recommendations. She was free to live where she wished and didn’t have to stay in Wales but she had to serve Torchwood for so many months a year.
Jack seemed to encourage this decision so Leo agreed. She was given a room in the Hub to stay in until she could find somewhere else to live. Through the years, she kept the room, never finding a need to wander.
Jack had discovered something odd about Leo. She didn’t seem to age. She never got sick and most importantly, when hurt, she healed so very fast. Leo never held delusions that she couldn’t stay dead like Jack but she had gifts from her world that, on Lortei, would be minor, yet on Earth they were exaggerated.
Jack told her what had happened to her planet. He said that there was a war, a Time War. He said that even though her people were peaceful they were inadvertently destroyed, as were so many worlds during that war. Her family was gone and she was the last of her kind.
Through the years, Leo would leave Torchwood to see the world. She also served as a nurse in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. Her talents as a healer came in handy and many young men owed her their lives.
Her travels have also taken her to many lands where she learned many techniques for fighting and defence. She figured if she was stuck on this planet for the rest of her existence she would learn anything and everything she could. Books are her friends.
No matter how far she roamed or how long she disappeared, Leo always comes back to Torchwood. They saved her, namely, Jack Harkness saved her. She would have died on the streets and she would have gone mad in Flat Holm if not for that man. She loved him with every fibre of her being for she considers him family.

secrets: She cannot cook to save her life. She has tried and failed but she can’t do it. She can bake, though. Leo will bake cookies and pastries and cakes and scones and anything that could be baked but ask her to boil water and the pot may catch fire.
fears: Leo is afraid of dying. She has been so close to death on many occasions but it isn’t actually death that scares her. She is afraid of dying and never having children. She is the last of her kind and the idea of never passing on what she is to another terrifies her beyond measure.
habits: Leo likes pop music and will randomly burst into song. She has a bad habit of chewing on the sides of her fingers and biting her lip when she is stressed.
overall personality:She is a lost child who will never find her home. She loves fiercely and hates deadly. Torchwood has trained her to be something she would never have become if she had stayed on Lortei. Her peaceful nature has been tainted. She loves colour and yet rarely wears any. She is dark and mysterious and yet bubbly and child-like, depending on her mood.
Leo, though, technically 97 Earth years old, looks to be in her late twenties. Sometimes, she acts like she owns every one of her ninety-seven years. Other times she is still the young child from Lortei, playful and mischievous and amused by so little.
Her love of music has often gotten her into trouble. She has travelled with some of the best bands in an attempt to find the family she left behind. This doesn’t make sense to those outside of her circle, but those who really know her, they would understand. She is looking for a certain brilliance that comes from those who create beauty and Leo feels that she may find that person in the music world.
Leo clings to the hope that she could possibly rebuild her family, here on Earth. She has long since given up the idea of returning to her world. Instead, she has figured she could create something here, if she could find the right…well, she can’t say.
The mystery of Leo is that she is mostly an open book that seems to have vital pages stuck together. She knows what is written there but she isn’t ready to share with anyone, well, except Jack. Leo shared her inner secrets with Jack, once. That was the last time she had seen him. The conversation didn’t go well and she has spent the better part of these past decades trying to come to terms with this. She misses Jack, the only person she considers her family, though, she is still looking to expand on that.

(God-Moded with Jack…cus I own his shapely butt!)
“Jack! Look at this outfit they‘ve put on me! I look like a proper lady!” Leo squealed as she ran through the Hub. “How am I supposed to catch Weevils in this?” She motioned to the matronly dress and sensible shoes.
Jack looked up from his paperwork and smiled. “It’s the style, kiddo, for a proper young lady.”
“Proper young lady? When’ve I ever been a proper young anything? I want trousers! I want shoes without heels…well, I don’t mind the heels so much but…what are these things?” Leo pointed at the shoes on her feet as if they were personally responsible for her clothing.
Jack glanced down and grinned. “Those would be buckles.”
“I hate buckles,” she exclaimed, throwing herself into the chair beside him.
Jack picked up her hand and kissed the back of it. “You’ll learn to like them. It’s part of the current style.”
“Why? I’m not human, why do I have to dress like those silly girls who walk down by the bay, giggling at everything with their vapid smiles and their shallow ideals.” Leo pulled her hand from Jack and crossed her arms over her chest. She looked like a young girl but she was already an adult by her world’s standards. Eighteen seasons were equal to twenty-six Earth years. “I’m no more a child than you’re a virgin.” She cast a side-long glance at Jack.
“LEOLINA!” Matron called and Leo cringed. “LEOLINA! WHERE ARE YOU? YOU’VE GOT ETIQUETTE LESSONS, YOUNG LADY!”
Leo growled under her breath and Jack laughed. “I’m probably older than she is and she calls me young lady. Etiquette lessons? And I wish she’d stop calling me that STUPID NAME! Jack, save me.” She cast blue eyes onto the immortal man and stuck out her bottom lip. “Please, Jack?”
Jack sighed and stood up. He walked over to his locker and pulled out a pair of trousers and a shirt. “I’m going to regret this,” he said, throwing the clothing at Leo. “Put those on. I’m not responsible for the fit but get dressed and I’ll take you Weevil hunting with me.”
“What about Matron?” she asked, pulling the trousers up under her skirt.
“Don’t worry about her. She’s still pissed cus someone dropped a house on her sister,” he joked, checking his revolver as Leo dressed.
“What?” she asked, cinching a piece of rope around her waist and pulling the dress over her head. She quickly began to button up Jack’s shirt.
“Don’t worry, you’ll get it in a few year. Come on,” he said, leading her through the Hub so the Matron didn’t catch them.
