Quinn waved at the elderly female human behind the desk in what she had pinpointed as an altruistic manner, which caused the female to smile at her with yellowed teeth as she took the stairs to the second floor shelves. The desk humans had become quite used to her presence in the past couple of days she had spent in this city. They had asked her if she had wanted a card, but she told them no because she had no pockets, when really it was because lugging a physical object around, no matter what size or weight, could be quite tiring, not to mention frustrating. So they bared their teeth at her in a friendly manner as she went upstairs to find books.
To Quinn, the library was probably the best concept humans ever though of, much better than sliced bread, which seemed to be the general favorite. To have miles of information all in one place, all the explanations of history and culture and technology. She found books on people too, humans that got in fights and then fell madly in love, humans that fought wars (sometimes with one another, sometimes with aliens), even humans who flew. When Quinn asked one of the desk humans why they needed stairs if they could fly, the elderly female told her that she was being silly and stories like Peter Pan were not real. That didn't make sense to Quinn though, creating information that wasn't true. So she put down the human books and went back to those that explained.
Today she perused down the narrow corridor of shelves, looking at the wall of books before her before picking out one on trains, then one on something called "gardening", then one on astronomic physics. She then lugged them, with a great deal of effort and many false starts, to the shelves near the back wall, where she could work unobserved. It was such a hassle to have to use hands. Quinn made the text on gardening buoyant so that it floated before her, rendering hands unnecessary.

As a general rule, Alex wasn’t really a library person. Her opinion was that if she couldn’t find it on the internet, it wasn’t worth knowing. Reading for pleasure wasn’t really her thing, either. Besides, no one could argue with her—digital media was more eco-friendly, after all. Didn’t waste paper like real books did, and meant she could get away with being illiterate. Whoo. Go trees. As weird as it was, however, the internet occasionally failed her. And while the particular book she needed didn’t exist in the vast expanse of illegal downloading, the local library did have a copy. Funny thing, that.
Alex hadn’t actually been to Cardiff’s main library before, and it took her a little circling before she actually found the building. It was worse inside; she was pretty good with street addresses but had never figured out the dewey-decimal-whatever-the-hell-they-were-using. The computer catalogue ended up being no help whatsoever, although the poor design was enough to make her grit her teeth. Ugh, basic Java. It wasn’t long before she had given up on really searching for the book, and eventually Alex resorted to wandering through the stacks in search.
The deeper Alex went into the library the more obscure the books became, but at least she was close to the right section. She finally managed to find the physics section and began searching in earnest. Nothing. Well, it was possible her choice had been labeled under something else, maybe mechanics or engineering. Ugh. The woman was about ready to give up when she heard the sound of a turning page. Oh hey, maybe there was a librarian to help her. Alex poked her head out from the isle and spotted a girl. Probably not a librarian after all, but still might be able to help. “Hey, do you know where…?” she trailed off, finally noting that her assistant wasn’t actually holding the book that was in front of her chest. “Oh. Um. What?” She wasn’t gonna lie, that was weird.

“Hey, do you know where…?"
Quinn looked up at the sudden noise, mildly startled, but not enough to flee. She knew enough to understand violence wasn't allowed in the library. It would have made too much noise. Still, it was enough to make the book fall suddenly into Quinn's hands. She bounced it again for good measure, as if that was what she had been doing all along. "Yes? Hello. Are you looking for a book?" she queried bravely. She was not normally one for conversation, but she understood the library well enough she thought she could speak to someone else on the subject. If the human was asking a where, it was probably the where of a book.

Almost as soon as Alex noticed the oddity of the floating book, it dropped. The girl tossed it up again, and it completed a normal, gravity-obedient path. Huh. Well, could have been nothing. Chronostasis or the like would have caused the illusion. But what if that hadn’t been it? Normally she’d dismiss the idea, but, well, there had been some weird things going on in the last month. A few thoughts on mechanical ways to float objects came to mind, and she noted them for later. Maybe she’d have a new project to try. But that was for later, because the girl with the Jedi mind tricks was waiting for an answer.
“Yeah. Right,” Alex shook the thoughts out of her head, although the puzzled expression remained. “Didn’t have any luck finding something. You don’t know where the mechanics section is, do you? Wait, do they have a separate one for robotics? Might be under there, too.” And while she was at it, was there anything on levitation? Wait—if it had been a trick of her eyes, then why the hell was the girl bouncing the book up and down? This was a strange world she lived in.

The female looked confused, and Quinn desperately hoped she would ignore the until-recently floating book. She was relieved when the human asked her a question.
"You don’t know where the mechanics section is, do you? Wait, do they have a separate one for robotics? Might be under there, too.”
"Did you want regular mechanics, or quantum? Well, I suppose it doesn't matter: the maths and sciences are pretty much right next to one another." she chatted amiably, hoping her word choice was correct. "It's a flight down, to the left, right before you reach the viewing room." she looked down for a second at an image of a female with a dented blade kneeling in dirt, looking happy. It was quite intriguing: why was she so excited about stabbing dirt? Quinn looked up at the woman again. "I hope you find what you desire. They have lots of good books there."
