name , Veronica Marie James
nicknames , Goes by a number of aliases, though none are currently in use. However, she will respond to James or Jamie. Occasionally those close to her might get away with calling her Ronnie. Sometimes when she is in a jaunty mood (as when she is killing a large horde of weevils) she will refer to herself as “’Ole Ronnie”, but this does not automatically grant usage of the nickname.
age & date of birth , 38 years old; born January 7th
gender , female
sexual orientation , heterosexual
species , human
played by , Julianne Moore

height , 5 ft 5"
weight , 140 lbs
tattoos and piercings , none.
physical flaws ;Though unnoticeable from afar, Veronica’s right arm and a portion of her leg have been replaced by robotic prosthetics, rendering them without feeling. While a good portion of her right side is made of metal, the connecting tissue is horribly scarred from the accident that caused her mutilation. A flexible synthetic polymer has been outfitted over these mechanical parts to give the effect of natural skin color, but the scars give away the connecting points on what is real and what is not. Despite these problems, Veronica carries herself with confidence which can make her seem, though not pretty, quite intriguing.
personal style , As far as distinguishing features, Veronica has very sharp cheek bones, one of her few claims to beauty. Other than that, however, Veronica is far from what might be considered beautiful. At best she could be
considered ‘fit’. Her thin, muscular form does not give many hints of femininity, with narrow hips and a smaller bust. She doesn’t mind this, never really taken with the commercial image of womanhood, and when she’s herself tends to wear very little makeup or jewelry. Naturally pale, she has already begun to garner the signs of age about her, especially around her eyes, though this may just be a side-affect of her smoking and the constant stress she has been under. Her clothing tends to lean towards dark solids as they are not as noticeable in a crowd and allow her to blend in. She usually wears a button-down blouse and some sort of pant, as skirts aren't very practical to her mind.

likes ,
-computers
-weapons (especially her handgun)
-smoking
-the thrill of the chase
-being trusted with something important
-being on her own
-getting the job done
-cooking
-Italian food
-nice coats
-Sinatra
Considering her former career, it comes as no surprise that Veronica enjoys firearms. She keeps her handgun with her always, and tends to have an itchy trigger finger.
Other than her gun, Veronica usually carries a pack of cigarettes. These two items tend to go hand-in-hand with her. Veronica enjoyed smoking for years as a way to relax, but since the death of her team Veronica smokes constantly and is not often seen without a lit cigarette in her hand. She does not tolerate people who try to get her to quit, even if they are close friends. When given the quip “Smoking kills,” she is always quick to reply with an irritable “Guns kill faster,” and will proceed to demonstrate her point in some fashion.
dislikes ,
-people
-people who won’t die
-leaked information
-being treated as an inferior
-obnoxious young people
-people who ask too many questions
-being followed
-not being in control
-lengthy relationships
-mushy romances
Definitely not a “people-person”, she is happiest when she is on her own and tends to work alone. Even during her time at Torchwood, she still kept some loner qualities, and never fully explained herself to her teammates (though in her paranoia she had searched their personal files and knew all official information on their histories). Still, because of her talents, she is used to working high-profile cases. She becomes irritable when she does not believe her abilities are being used properly, and cannot stand to be treated as an inferior.
strengths ,
-long-range sniping
-detailed knowledge of poisons
-very athletic
-well-versed in explosives
-decent hacking skills
-working knowledge of some alien artifacts
-surprisingly good at bartending
Veronica retains several abilities from her past career, including skills in long-range sniping, computer hacking, and a vast knowledge of firearms, poisons, and explosives. She's a perfectionist, and is used to life-or-death situations. Veronica has hardened herself to deal with the most unexpected situations, can kill with little remorse, and does not break down easily. However, this means she does not open up quickly to people. Often only focused on the job at hand, she has little patience for small talk, long lunch breaks, or anything that could be considered "fun" that does not involve drinking or violence. She will, if given the chance, not take a specified smoke break but simply light up where she is and continue her work.
When not out in the field, Veronica passes the time at the shooting range to keep her aim sharp. However, she has a myriad of other talents left from her old life that can be quite surprising. She is a decent bartender and knows how to pull a draft, which is always fun at parties so long as you don’t piss her off too much. She harbors a love of fresh Italian food which she claims stems from her childhood, and knows how to cook it properly.
Cooking, in fact, may be the one domestic activity she actually enjoys participating in. While the rest of her flat may seem empty and impersonal, her kitchen is always well-stocked with a variety of expensive ingredients. She measures out oregano with the same precision as cyanide, and brings a sort of intensity to such a casual activity that can be quite fun to watch. She also enjoys big band music and owns several Sinatra recordings.
weaknesses ,
-doesn’t play well with others
-speaks harshly
-lacks a moral compass
-often disappears without notice
-addicted to her cigarettes
-RETCON
Veronica does not play well with others. She has a propensity to analyze them like cogs in a machine, picking out tendencies and weaknesses. Information is much more important than people in her mind, and she would gun down a comrade in an instant if she suspected them of compromising important intelligence. For this reason she has never gotten close to anyone. So far, she hasn’t needed to. As far as any romantic interaction, she prefers the love’em-and-leave’em method: all romance is strictly physical. However, with the loss of the team Veronica is finally starting to feel the emptiness in her life, and she doesn’t have anyone to share it with, or even know how to share it properly.
Only understanding the art of being alone, when she is with a group Veronica will often take off without notifying anyone where she is going or how long she will be gone. These disappearances were considered troublesome by her teammates, but suspecting she might be moonlighting in her old job, they did not want to breech the subject. She was usually back before anything big happened, so the subject was left alone.
Since the loss of her team, Veronica smokes more than ever. When she isn’t smoking, she’s wanting to smoke. This makes her highly irritable if stuck in public buildings for long periods of time. This addiction, of course, is terribly unhealthy, but it keeps her away from the RETCON. If given the chance she would take enough to erase all recollections of losing Torchwood 4 and destroy all memories about what they working on there. However, she knows she has to be alert if any of the remains come back through the rift, a job she cannot let fall to any other Torchwood team, least they find out about Torchwood 4’s work. And with each passing day, she adds more history she would be forced to forget, so the considered dose has become dangerously high.
fears , Veronica James has always had issues with the Torchwood 3 leader, Captain Jack Harkness. A woman who deals regularly in death naturally finds a man who can’t die a bit unnerving. Not that she is truly afraid of him, of course: she just finds him a bit obnoxious. She is, however, afraid of the sorts of complications he might cause, especially if he gets any information on what Torchwood 4 has been working on.
She also fears getting too close to others. Veronica let her guard down when she became a member of Torchwood 4. Losing the entire team was a hard blow for her, and is not something she plans to do again anytime soon.
Though not entirely a fear, Veronica does have an aversion to catfish. No matter how many times she has cooked them, she always ends up with a bone cooked in. Taking it as a matter of fate, she will switch any catfish recipe to another kind of fish.
overall personality , Veronica used to keep several personalities on hand for her work: the bubbly sweetheart, the dark vixen, the bookworm, the overachiever. After joining Torchwood Four, however, she realized she didn’t require these personas on a daily basis. Underneath all those masks was a sharp-minded, work-oriented woman who was not as personable as her characters, and perhaps to some, not nearly as interesting. The real Veronica was very physical and very focused, and ignored most emotion in favor of logic. This made her rather hard to approach.
It was her exploits and notorious past that kept the other members interested in her and what led them to pursue some sort of working friendship with her. In time she got used to them and became somewhat more personable, even loyal to them. Instead of working solo, she had become part of a unit, and did whatever was in her power to help the team flourish. This usually meant playing bodyguard for the teammates who were more tech-oriented.
When an experiment with alien technology went haywire and sucked the base into the rift, Veronica was the only one who survived, and even then just barely. Survivor’s guilt left her bitter and angry. She is back to being alone now, and has decided she prefers it that way, though she still considers herself Torchwood 4. Acknowledging how much her time with the team had changed her, she decided to take full responsibility for covering up Torchwood 4 and its remains. This meant she couldn’t let the other Torchwood teams know of her survival; she simply let them presume she was dead as well.

history , Veronica James was once a very highly paid hitman, working mostly on the edge of Mediterranean. She was born in Scotland, but not much is known about her childhood. From close scrutiny of her personality and tastes in food, music, and dress, it is supposed she spent some times in Italy, Austria, France, Denmark, and Greece, though nothing can be proven. Veronica James is not even her real name; the paper trail of whoever she had been before, including birth certificate, education and medical records, have all been erased. Such clean work may suggest that she was taught her profession at an early age rather than picked it up on her own, but she has never said anything on the subject.
On an expedition in Egypt when she was 26, she ended up working alongside Torchwood 4 when it became apparent that both her mark and her commissioner were aliens. Torchwood 4 later commissioned her for her skills, but as it began to take up much of her time she eventually agreed to join the team. As she was brought in full-time after three of the team had died in action, and as she already knew her way around, the other new recruits viewed her as second-in-command. She specialized in weapons and tracking, and later acted as a sort of bodyguard for the more technology-minded members of the team. They had a working relationship for the most part, though Veronica was still a bit of a loner and would occasionally disappear on personal business without a word.
The team was based in Northern Ireland and worked independently of the other branches, though they did cross paths a couple of times. When working on a device involving Huon particles, a stabilizer burst, presumably killing the rest of the team as well as paralyzing and ultimately destroying much of the right half of Veronica's body from the neck down. The particles also jump started a tear in the rift, causing it to consume much of the base.
Veronica was able scavenge some of the alien artifacts remaining in the refuse, and with the help of a very high-tech surgeon was able to replace the ruined half of her body with cybernetics. Combining some of her stolen technology with a synthetic polymer she was able to form a cover layer of fake skin, so she looks moderately normal.
To avoid detection from Torchwood 2 and 3, Veronica moved to the States, where she quietly bided her time until she was certain she was believed dead. However, with recent activity in the rift, Veronica has reason to believe Torchwood Four might be brought back, and she is determined to get to it before another Torchwood team can discover its terrible secret.

roleplay sample ,
It had been dark outside for some time now. Veronica had been in the brightly lit kitchen for most of it, preparing game hen with leeks and vadouvan, with a small glass of wine nearby to help her through. She didn’t usually have the time to enjoy cooking like this, but she had just gotten back in the UK for the first time in years. That meant new apartment, new furniture, new everything, of course. She was used to moving around and hadn’t gotten particularly sentimental about her old furniture. But the flat was nearly empty (save a few necessities) and when she’d seen it she knew right away she’d have to go out for groceries. The cooking kept her hands busy, and such a hard recipe didn’t give her mind a chance to wander back to the last time she’d been in Glasgow.
Now though, with the meal finished she had nothing to distract her. She moved through the dark hallways, preferring not to turn on the lights, not even when she reached the big den. Well, she said den. It was closer to a ballroom in size, with hardwood floors the length of the room and windows filling the far wall. The only suggestion of a den was a small black couch and a table with some files on it. Veronica sat down and lit up a cigarette, the bright glow of the lighter suddenly brightening the large room and, if anything, making it seem even larger. She would have to get a bar, she decided. Or maybe a second desk. She picked up one of the folders and opened it.
Veronica looked over her papers carefully in the dim light, lit cigarette in hand. Explosions in Cardiff. Mysterious artifact surfacing. A gathering of certain people….
She sighed and brought the cigarette to her mouth. She had been waiting for something like this to occur. Well, dreading, if you really got down to it. The rift gave and took like the tides, and there hadn’t been a returning wave yet. If anything was brought back, if even the smallest bit of info resurfaced, revealed what they had been working on…
She would have to be there first.
She would have to act fast.
