The sounds of music were leaking out of someone's speakers on the boardwalk, some bubbly pop song from America. Susan smiled to herself and resisted the urge to dance to the beat. She had always loved dancing, even if she didn't know the song. No, she can't dance right now, that'd attract attention that she didn't need.
Despite her initial confusion, she wasn't worried in the slightest about her new destination. The 21st century wasn't anything new to her, she'd been a few times in her travels, however it was still a little confusing to her. Trying to fit into a time period you haven't been in for a while can do that to you, you know. Still, it was a nice break from all those years with David. Not that she disliked being with, she honestly loved him, but what she had not loved was the time. Why couldn't Grandfather have dropped her off in a different time, like the Sixties, or even the Seventies? Or maybe even this time, it didn't look so bad, she actually kinda liked it here.
Wait, Grandfather! He could be here, or could end up here soon! She grinned and did a quick spin, skipping down the sidewalk and grinning to herself. She could find him, he'd have to end up here sooner or later! It might not be today, or even tomarrow, but she'd keep looking. Maybe he'd let her travel with him again, that would be amazing!
With another hop in her step, Susan raced across the wooden boardwalk, but quickly stopped when she got to one of the streetlamps. Where would she start looking? That was the thing about the Tardis, it could be anywhere in Time and Space right now! And of all the places for Susan to get stuck in, it had to be Wales! She smile faltered, but she shook her head. No, don't think negative like that, that never got anyone anywhere. She'd just have to find someone who could help her find him. It was 2009, right? Ian and Barbara could still be alive(if all went well and the Doctor had dropped them off in their own time.), but would they remember her? It didn't matter, she'd just have to prove she was Susan, but then what?
Well, if the 21st century was as technologically advanced as she remembered it being, it wouldn't take too much for her to make something to track the Tardis down, but just some fancy technology wasn't enough. The device would require something with the Tardis' 'scent' as well. She rummaged through her pocket, her fingers touching something cool and metal at the bottom. She still had her key! Now to just find the right equipment...

You know what was awesome? Slushies. Even better were slushies on a warm day with bright sun, without that pesky 'work' detail to get in the way of some quality time-wasting. Truth be told, Alex would have had just as much fun in her lab, but she couldn't live there. Well, yes she could. Did, technically, considering she'd converted her bedroom into a work station. The woman consoled herself by remembering that she did need some new jeans. That was a reason to spend the day shopping, right? She thought so. Besides, there would probably be something stopping her from doing it, later. Something always came up, so why do something important when she could something fun was avaliable?
Alex strolled down the boardwalk, slushie in one hand and bags--product of her success--in the other. There was more than a little bounce in her step, which matched the music, and an infectious smile etched permanently onto her face. She was in a great mood, for no particular reason other than being out and about. Well, and possibly a sugarhigh. The woman also had a bad case of Distraction, going between going from window shopping to people watching to trying to determine exactly what kind of sailboat was going by.
Alex's joy de vivre was interrupted by a jogger. No, not a jogger, didn't look like it. Just someone jogging. The woman stopped, looked around, and was...worried? Alex frowned faintly. Lost, maybe, or looking for someone. Ah hell, she didn't exactly have anything better to do, and she hadn't gotten in her Good Samaritan deed of the day. Alex trotted over to the woman, bright and bubbly. "Hey, you okay? You looked worried and I thought--this sounded a lot less awkward in my head, sorry," she admitted sheepishly. Alex wasn't shy in the least, but going up to strangers and striking up a conversation wasn't her strongest point. Ah well. She'd offered her help, at least.

Yep, the Tardis key was just what she needed. Without fully thinking, Susan pulled the key out of her dress pocket, one silver key among many on a small keyring, other keys she had needed back in the 2100's, her car, the house, a copy of David's car... No, she was losing track of her thoughts again, she couldn't do that right now. She had the key, all she needed now was enough technology to track the scent.
Susan was becoming so engrossed in her key, she almost didn't hear a woman speak to her. "Huh?" She looked up and saw a shorter girl in front of her with a bag in her hand. "Oh, hello there." She said brightly, holding out a free hand. "Oh, I'm just looking for someone, I mean, something. I'm looking for something so I can find someone." She said quickly, pointing at one invisible thing to another as she tried to explain herself. Her hands could be very expressive at times. "Do you know where I could find an old GPS system?" A modified GPS could work fine, although she wasn't sure how accurate it would be. Making it from scratch would work better, most likely, but Susan didn't have the patience at the moment to make a whole Tardis tracker out of scraps. Although now that she thought about it, she'd need a few scraps as well to keep the key in place.
"My name's Susan, by the way. What's your's?" She said once she had a plan fully thought out in her mind as she smiled again, putting her keys back where she found them in her pocket. This girl looked trustworthy, maybe she could help her find her grandfather. Still, she couldn't tell her everything, she'd just need to come up with a convincing and true enough lie for now. Even if Susan hated lying.

Alex shook the woman's hand, relieved that she wasn't coming off as a creeper. Although, she considered as the other woman explained her situation, maybe she wasn't the strange one. Alex's eyebrows pinched together into a frown. Using something to find someone? A little worrying. The hand gestures did little to explain anything, even if they were amusing. Although it could have something to do with her car, considering the keys in her hand. Yeah, that was probably it. Her suspicions were cleared up when the woman finally got to the mention of GPS. Ah. That, at least, made sense. Alex's failings at navigation were nothing short of legendary, herself. She gave a sympathetic smile. Poor woman was probably lost, or trying to find a friend's house.
“Alex,” she introduced herself cheerfully, nodding to Susan. “And this is probably gonna sound odd, but yeah, I think I have a few lying around. Any particular brand or model?” Alex was pretty sure she had some old tom-toms somewhere around the shop, used occasionally for spare parts but mostly there because she never got around to throwing them away. Besides, who knew when junk would come in handy? She could handle a little clutter, if it was cheaper and more convenient. “Ah, but if it's just directions you want, I can probably send you the right way,” she added hurriedly. Even with her...talents...she had managed to learn most of Cardiff, at least the major parts. Besides, it wasn't like she had anything better to do, other than spend money on clothing she didn't need. Helping needy souls was better, right?
