Donna walked slowly down the bay as she looked into the shop windows, she was only just getting used toc ardiff and torchwood which to donna seemed more violent that her and the doctor usually it was just running for them. Donna soon came to the bay side restaurant and decided that she would get something to eat so she opened the door and got hit by the best smell that she had ever smelt. This is brilliant she muttered to herself one of the most common things she said.
Donna tucked her long red hair behind her ear and ordered some chips, sure she as hungry but she wasn't posh enough to sit in the restaurant. She took the chips and left carrying the plate with her. Torchwood will pay you back she shouted back to him. She began to eat her chips although they burnt her tongue. Ow she shouted out loud scaring a little boy going past.

Alex wasn't the greatest cook. Okay, that was an overstatement. She used her fire extinguisher more on her food than her experiments. Said experiments usually turned out better, too. Thankfully there was no dearth of restaurants in Cardiff, and Alex was generally safer eating out. She had found this gem just a few weeks ago, via a friend. It was quickly becoming a favorite--they had allergen information and everything on their menus. Helped her avoid little inconveniences, like anaphylactic shock. Good food, too. That was definitely a bonus. Alex sat at one of the Bayside's outside tables, enjoying the view of the bay almost as much as her fish. It was just warm enough for the breeze to feel good. She put her feet up on the vacant chair next to her, not minding anyone's looks. Perfect.
There was a loud voice from behind her, and Alex shifted her position just enough to see the restaurant's entrance. Sounded like someone putting the meal on a company tab, nothing interesting. Ah well, uninteresting was good. She eyed the redhead a moment more, and was rewarded with a surprised exclamation as she tried her fish and chips. Yes, surprised--so was the poor kid passing her. Alex stifled a laugh at their expressions. Could almost feel bad for them, though. Tongue burns were as evil as paper cuts, and Alex hated people sneaking up on her. "Careful," the American called out cheekily, "they make food hot here. You might wanna slow down. Ah, you're okay, right?" Let it never be said that she was inconsiderate. Well, other than laughing at people. That was just good fun.

Donna looked back at the girl that laughed at her and made a sour face then Donna laughed out loud and walked over to the girl. "You mind if i sit?" she asked. "i don't know a lot a people in Cardiff, you could say iv just moved here for awhile." Donna smiled as she thought about the real reason that she was stuck here, the tardis seemed to have died on them and the doctor was nearly always trying to fix it, of course Donna cared but if theirs nothing you can do then theres nothing you can do.
She brought herself back to earth and stared at the girl taking the empty seat that her feet weren't on. You been in Cardiff long? she asked trying to make conversation. After talking to the doctor and torchwood she needed someone that didn't know anything about them yet. Donna again moved her red hair behind her and placed her chips on the table this time she blew on one before putting it in her mouth. She stared around the restaurant it was quite beautiful.

Alex flashed the woman a relieved smile, glad her teasing was received well. Some people just had no sense of humor. With only a faint grumble she moved her feet off the other chair, making room for Donna. Looked like she was losing her footstool to company. Well, not the worst tradeoff she'd ever made. For a second Alex wondered why the woman had moved here, but didn't press the issue. Probably family or a job. She watched as Donna sat down in the other chair, the one that Alex hadn't moved her feet from. Bah. She didn't bother putting them back up, instead focusing on her fish for a second. It was very yummy.
"I'm pretty new here, actually," Alex confessed in response to the other woman's question. "New job and all that. Moved from Brecon a few months ago." She figured that was enough information, at least for now. The reason why she needed a new job still smarted a little. Besides, it wasn't great for conversation with most people. Sure, there were a few out there who would appreciate the nuclear power thing, but most just looked at you like you were radioactive, too. Working on cars was easier, in that respect. She still got some weird reactions--Alex didn't exactly look like a mechanic--but not as many as she did before.
The other woman blew off a chip carefully, and Alex couldn't help but grin. There wouldn't be any more tongue burns for a while, she suspected, and watching her exaggerated care was entertaining. "It's Alex, by the way. Well, Alexandra, but no one calls me that besides my boss." she offered easily, but didn't bother with anything so formal as a handshake. It was too nice out for that, and she was sure her company wouldn't mind. Besides, reaching across the table seemed like too much work. and she had fish to attend to.

Donna listened to the girl while she ate her chips this time blowing on each one before placing them in her mouth. i must look like a nut case said Donna but i hate burns She had ever since she was burnt on her arm when she was younger by hot water from a kettle that that this girl needed to know that. Your new too? asked Donna slightly surprised, this girl fitted in well and looked like she should be here, Donna on the other hand no so much. I'm Donna she explained after the girl she now knew to be called Alex introduced herself.
This chips are the best i have ever tasted and trust me my friend love chips he eats them nearly all the time. Expained Donna. She laughed as she thought of the doctor eating chips in this cafe cooling them down with his sonic screwdriver. She then remembered the pain that he was in, the tardis was a part of the doctor and he was in so much pain that she had died. Donna was going to stick with him, she didn't want to go home now she wanted to stay with the doctor and travel in the tardis.
Donna continued eating her chips until their was only a few left, she was about to go but decided to stay with Alex. Donna needed some company and laughter, she knew it wasn't the doctors fault but still. Then jack and ianto were always in his office doing god knows what , and Gwen was nearly always with Rhys and such. Donna was the odd one out who wanted to help but didn't get let in although Donna was determined to get herself in no matter what.

At the woman's comment about caution Alex smiled, and gave a quiet inner chuckle. No one was really a big fan of injury. Well, there were a few people, but they were weird. Alex herself always seemed to end up with new burns and scrapes. Carelessness with power tools, mostly. Well, there was that laser fight last month. That was fun, even if she'd come away with a few small burns. The other woman's question caught her with a mouth full of fish, and she could only nod her confirmation. Though she didn't feel new here any more, as she thought about it. Cardiff was starting to feel like home, even though she hadn't been there too long. It reminded her a lot of Boston, oddly enough. Only things that were missing were the accents. She swallowed and grinned. "Donna. Nice t' meet you."
"A chip expert, huh?" Alex replied to Donna. "Good to know. These are pretty awesome, at that." She took another one of hers, happily nibbling on the chip. She usually tried to eat healthy, so this was a nice change. The two fell into silence for a few minutes as they finished their food. Yeah, this was a good change--not just the food, but the company. Alex hadn't had the chance to just sit and enjoy small talk for...well, a while now. She wasn't even sure how long. Donna struck her as good company, too. Meeting her was some great luck.
Finishing her meal, Alex looked up to Donna again, eying her decisively. She was reluctant to part, and had a feeling the other woman was, too. It felt good to get out, anyway, and she was suddenly loath to go back to her apartment. Might as well offer something else to do before some waiter started glaring at them. "You already paid, right? If you don't have any plans or work to get to, I know a decent coffee shop not too far from here," Alex offered, waving a hand in its general direction. "Nice atmosphere. Tea's supposed to be good too, if you like it better." With any luck, she'd get taken up on the offer.

Donna smiled as Alex called her a chip expert, she wasn't really an expert of anything, well except running with the doctor and winding him up, apart from that Donna wasn't good at anything. Donna then listened to what Alex was asking her. Paid ? Yeah i have, well torchwood has Donna grinned as she spoke liking the fact that she didn't have to pay for her dinner for once in her life.
Donna was quite surprised when Alex asked her if Donna fancied a drink. ummmm Donna thought for a moment as she looked at her watch, she had told the doctor she would be back in a couple of hours, so Donna was fine to go out and enjoy herself a bit more. Yeah why not? Donna wasn't a coffee person more of a tea or hot chocolate person but Donna could do with some female company apart from her mother.

"Perfect," Alex replied with a grin. Company tabs were wondrous things indeed. Didn't recognize the name 'Torchwood', but then she hadn't been here too long either. She had already paid for her meal, so there was nothing stopping them. Nibbling on one last chip, Alex stood up and shouldered her purse. She glanced around and found a waiter already heading over to clean their table. Not doing dishes: another reason to eat out as much as possible. The woman stretched, and glanced back at Donna before slowly heading for the street. Nothing like stretching her legs after a good meal. Even without good company, Alex would have looked forward to the walk. The destination was a nice bonus, too.
"Pretty out, isn't it?" Alex asked, oblivious to whether Donna thought so too."It's great here. The restaurants, the people, the cars--even if they are gasoline powered--and I sound a little high, don't I?" She gave Donna a sheepish grin, suddenly aware of her ramblings. "I'm not. Really," Alex assured her. Even so, it was probably better to change the subject. Besides, there had been something nagging her a little. "So what do you do?" She asked her, as much for the information as an effort to restart the conversation. She eyed Donna for a second, trying to guess, and came up blank. Not that this was a surprise, really. She could never pin a job--or anything else--on anyone. Not a problem. She liked living her life in surprise.

Donna walked towards the door and followed Alex outside. She walked beside her as she walked staring at the buildings that she walked past. Yeah Cardiff has grown on me grinned Donna . Alex's question caught her off guard as Donna didn't work anymore, she quickly made something up. well i work with torchwood as you know because of the tab and well we (Donna was tempted to say hunt aliens but instead she said) solve the things that the police cant. It was kind of true in a way thought Donna.
She wanted to quickly change the subject so that Alex didn't ask any more questions because Donna would have to tell her the truth if she couldn't think of anything else to say. So Alex Um wheres this coffee shop? she asked trying to sound as interested as possible. Donna carried on walking beside Alex as Donna didnt know where the hell she was going.

Alex grinned at Donna, slightly relieved. She hadn't come to the conclusion that she was crazy yet. It was coming, though, that was certain. Everyone found out she was a little...different...sooner or later. She tended to come off strong. It was a silly thing, really. If she was called anything, it should probably be eccentric. Not dangerous-crazy, anyway. Well, not much. Alex had yet to mutter 'I'll show those fools at the academy' in anything but jest. She was, in fact, a big fan of the academy. It was one of the only places she found people geekier than herself. Sure, there were some mad scientist urges, but who didn't have those? Not that Alex generally minded being called insane. She'd just rather not have it happen yet. The company was nice. It would be a shame to ruin it so soon. She brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, and grinned. "Yeah, its a pretty awesome city. Chance encounters and all."
Donna's reply made Alex raise her eyebrows in surprise. It wasn't the answer she had expected. Much more exciting. "Oh, like detective work?" she asked, interested. There were always pesky red tape problems that private organizations could get around. Unless it was something like bounty hunting, which was quite possibly even more awesome. "That's cool. Catch any fun bad guys? Um. Maybe 'fun' isn't the best word. Interesting? Sinister? Hm. Ah--right that way, about a block and a half, I think. Maybe a little less." Alex replied to Donna's second question without pause, only gesturing down the street they were walking alongside. She had more important things to talk about. Alex paused a second before adding, "Little bit of a walk, but not too bad. Just enough to make you thirsty again."
